Mochila bag
Mochila bag
A rustic Mochila bag made by the Arhuaco women of the Sierra Nevada in Colombia, using sheep fleece from the herds the community keep. The women harvest the fleece, spin it into yarn and then hand knot it to create the Mochila bags. One bag can take up to a month to make.
All the colours used within the bag are the natural colours of the fleece. Each piece is rather unique with a rustic quality and individual characteristics.
The bags were shipped by New Dawn Traders on board the sail cargo schooner Gallant from Santa Marta to Penzance - roughly 6000 nautical miles with the power of the wind.
Approximate dimensions : height (not including handles) - 27cm, diameter of base - 19cm, strap length - 86cm
Thank you to New Dawn Traders for the picture of the schooner Gallant in Penzance harbour.
