About
Hello, I’m Carole, designer, maker and owner of Handworked.
I’ve been designing, making and selling my own clothing collections since the 80’s, after studying fashion design at Newcastle Poly.
I moved to Cornwall over 25 years ago and opened my first shop in Penzance in 2013 - No.56, selling mainly homewares, adding a smaller Handworked shop in 2020 for my clothing.
My idea was a simple one - that beautiful and carefully made objects can add great joy to the everyday and although the shop has moved, changed and evolved, that idea has remained the same.
I have always loved natural fibres and fabrics and all things handmade. I love to see signs of the makers hand in the finished item, be that a thumb print in a glazed pot or an extra thread in handwoven fabric.
I have recently had to put the making on hold for the foreseeable future, but will, instead turn in some way to helping others make their own, it’s such a valuable and enriching skill to develop.
The Shop
It’s such a pleasure to now be in this beautiful building here at number 64, still on our beloved Chapel street.
We are spread over two floors, with a lovely workshop space above, giving plenty of room to house our favourite things, both old and new.
This year we have added new wools and yarns, colourful embroidery threads and lots more fabrics, which we hope will inspire you to make something lovely!
We also stock handmade papers, sketchbooks and creative supplies, alongside a range of books to both inspire and teach new crafts.
We have beautiful handmade jackets from Tamay & Me and accessories from various makers, along with a small collection of antique and vintage pieces.
We look forward to seeing you in the shop, if you are further afield we also have a small selection of our favourite things in our online shop.
Whether you are visiting in person, or online I hope that you’ll find something here to inspire your creativity.
Thank you for looking,
Carole
