Introduction to Machine Sewing

Saturday 11th October / 10 - 4

We’re excited to host our first sewing workshop at Handworked in collaboration with the wonderful Helen from Dot N Cross.

If you have a sewing machine and would like to learn how to sew or you haven’t sewn for years and need help getting started again - this is the class for you!

Helen has a wealth of experience having spent 12 years working as a pattern cutter in the London fashion industry for the likes of Karen Millen, Victoria Beckham and Mary Katrantzou. She now runs sewing and pattern cutting workshops in Cornwall and is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others.

What we love about this course is it teaches you the very basics of machine sewing right through to making your own tote bag with confidence using the skills you have learnt on the day. It will take place in our bright and airy studio space above the shop. Helen is a warm and knowledgeable teacher and it’s sure to be a lovely day.

Follow the link below to Dot N Cross for all the workshop details and how to book.

* This workshop requires you to bring a sewing machine, it’s a good opportunity to get to grips with your own machine. However if this is not possible for you get in contact with us directly (at Handworked) as we may have one you can borrow.

Pattern Tracing

Wednesday 12th November / 10 - 4

We are very pleased to say we will be hosting a second class with Helen from Dot N Cross - her fantastic pattern tracing workshop ‘Clone your Clothes’.

This workshop is perfect for you if you are a competent sewer and would like to learn how to make a pattern from an item of clothing you already own. Helen will use her wealth of professional experience in pattern cutting to guide you through the process of making a pattern from a loved item of old or vintage clothing. You will leave not only with your finished pattern pieces but a new thrifty skill you can use again and again.

This is one of the first workshops Helen ever taught and she is excited to bring it to Penzance. Hosted in our studio above the shop it will be a small class of 4 so you’ll get lots of help and guidance throughout. There will be tea and biscuits a plenty and its sure to be a fun and informative day, with new skills learnt!

Follow the link below to Dot N Cross for the full workshop details and how to book.
