Introducing : Hiroko Aono-Billson

We are delighted to have a selection of ceramics by Hiroko Aono-Billson of Aono Pottery, available in our Penzance shop and online.

Hiroko’s work is inspired by Japanese pottery, particularly pieces from the Mingei movement. She has a real passion for making tableware, mainly using earthenware terracotta clay with a white slip and a lovely honey-colour glaze. We think her decorative details are particularly appealing.

Previously based in Norwich, where she ran a clothing and homeware store focussing on Japanese craft and culture, Hiroko closed the store to relocate to the south coast, near Brighton. Hiroko hopes this move and change in lifestyle, will allow more time for her pottery and her textile work, including running Boro workshops.

An edited selection of Hiroko’s work can be found online here, with more pieces available in the shop.
